The Citizen Promaster BN0228-06W is a 200 metre Eco-Drive diver with a grey Super Titanium case, a green camouflage dial and a green polyurethane strap. It is the practical alternative to a mechanical diver: light keeps it running, so there is no battery appointment and nothing to wind.
The shape nods to Citizen’s 1982 Professional Diver, the lugless tool watch that was rated far deeper than this one. The BN0228-06W is not that 1,300 metre piece. It is a modern 200 metre Promaster, crown on the right, built for recreational scuba and for people who want that blunt case on the wrist every day.
Who it is for
Buy it if you want a set-and-forget diver and you have the wrist for a wide case. The lug-to-lug is shorter than the diameter suggests, because the strap joins under the case guards rather than on long lugs. Even so, this is a large watch. If you usually wear a 38 mm dress watch, try a smaller Promaster or an Orient Kamasu before you commit.
It is also the right lane if you are comparing Japanese divers and you do not want an automatic. We cover that choice in the affordable dive watch guide and in the Eco-Drive buying guide.
What the dial and case actually show
The dial is dark green camouflage, not a flat green. Citizen, Eco-Drive and Diver’s 200m are printed on it. Hour markers are round and triangular, filled with a pale green lume, and the hour and minute hands are broad and luminous. The date sits at 3 o’clock. The bezel is unidirectional, dark grey, with green numerals at ten-minute marks and a green triangle at 12. Citizen describes this reference as ISO-compliant for diving to 200 metres.
The case is Super Titanium with Duratect coating (Citizen lists Duratect MRK and DLC on this reference), so the finish is matte grey rather than polished steel. The crown is screw-down, at 3, with no crown guards in the usual Seiko sense. Four shoulders around the bezel are the protection instead. The case back is solid. The strap is green polyurethane with a buckle marked Citizen, and Citizen lists an extension strap with the reference for use over a wetsuit.

Case width is the one figure Citizen’s own regional pages do not print the same way. Hong Kong lists 45.8 mm, the Australian Citizen page lists 46.5 mm, and the US page lists 47 mm. This listing uses 47 mm, which matches the US sheet and the attribute already on the product. Thickness at 14.3 mm and the 24 mm strap are consistent. Do not expect a 40 mm wearing experience either way.
Water, light, and daily use
Two hundred metres, a screw-down crown and a one-way bezel are what you want for recreational scuba. Rinse it after the ocean. The mineral crystal will pick up scratches sooner than sapphire; that is the trade for this reference, and it is why some shops wrongly list a sapphire glass. Citizen’s US and Australian pages both say mineral.
Eco-Drive needs light. A full charge is rated around six months of normal wear, including time in the dark. Leave it on a windowsill if it has sat in a drawer. It does not take a regular coin-cell the way a Seiko 7T62 chronograph does.
Other Citizen divers and the wider dive watch range are the comparison set if this case is too big.
Common questions
What movement does the Citizen BN0228-06W use?
Eco-Drive calibre E168. It is a light-powered quartz movement with hours, minutes, seconds and a date. There is no automatic rotor and no regular battery to swap.
What is the water resistance of the BN0228-06W?
200 metres, or 20 bar. The dial reads Diver’s 200m. Citizen describes the reference as ISO-compliant, with a screw-down crown and a unidirectional bezel. That is recreational scuba territory, not a saturation watch.
How big is the Citizen Promaster BN0228-06W?
Large. This listing uses about 47 mm across, 14.3 mm thick and 45 mm lug-to-lug, on a 24 mm strap. Citizen’s regional spec sheets print the width as 45.8 mm, 46.5 mm or 47 mm. Measure your wrist if you are unsure. The short lug-to-lug helps, but it is still a tool-watch case.
Does the BN0228-06W need a battery change?
Not in the usual sense. Eco-Drive is charged by light and Citizen rates about six months of running from a full charge. A low-charge warning tells you when it has been in the dark too long. Park it in daylight rather than buying a cell.
Is the crystal sapphire?
No. Citizen lists a mineral crystal on the US and Australian pages for BN0228-06W. Some third-party listings say sapphire. Trust the mineral figure.
Is the case steel or titanium?
Super Titanium, with Citizen’s Duratect surface treatment. It is not a stainless steel case. The finish is matte grey, and the watch is lighter on the wrist than a steel diver of this size.
Is the BN0228-06W suitable for everyday wear?
Yes, if you like a large diver as a daily watch. The titanium case keeps the weight down, and the green strap is a sports strap, not a leather dress strap. It will look out of place with a suit cuff. It makes sense with a t-shirt, a wetsuit, or a desk job where you do not mind a bold watch.
