Seiko Presage SRPL96J1 The Conte Cocktail Time
The SRPL96J1 is Seiko’s Australasian Cocktail Time, named for Conte, the Sydney bar built around the Negroni. It is limited to 1,000 pieces. Deep red dial, rose-gold-tone case and hands, brown leather, date at 3. Caliber 4R35, 40.5 mm, box-shaped Hardlex, 50 metres.
On the photos for this listing the dial is a textured red, not a flat block of colour. PRESAGE AUTOMATIC sits above 6. The hands and applied indexes are rose-gold tone, and the date window is at 3. The case, bezel, and fold clasp match that tone. The strap is brown leather with pale stitching.
This is a dress automatic. It is not a diver, not a Seiko 5, and not sapphire. A few overseas sheets call the crystal sapphire on both sides. Seiko’s own specification says box-shaped Hardlex. Use that.
Who The Conte suits
Buy it for the red dial and the Australasian run, not as a beater. 40.5 mm by 47.5 mm lug-to-lug is the usual Cocktail Time size: it goes under a cuff more easily than a sports case, without being a small dress watch. Fifty metres covers rain and washing your hands. Do not make a habit of swimming or showering in it.
Seiko Boutique Australia lists the case colour as rose gold and the case material as stainless steel. The finish is a coating on steel, not a solid gold case. The same sheet lists about 70 g and a pull-out crown. You cannot choose the serial. Watches are sent at random.
Movement and case
Caliber 4R35 is the date automatic in the current Cocktail Time limited editions we carry. It winds as you wear it, can be wound by hand, and hacks for setting. Seiko quotes 23 jewels and about 41 hours of reserve. There is no day wheel. Case size on the official sheet is 40.5 mm wide, 11.8 mm thick, 47.5 mm lug-to-lug, 20 mm between the lugs. Magnetic resistance is 4,800 A/m.
The case back is a screw exhibition back, engraved Limited Edition. The listing photo shows a 4R35 rotor marked twenty-three jewels, and Made in Japan on the case side. The dial edge in the close-up is also marked Made in Japan. The gallery includes a deep red Presage presentation box with the brown strap and rose-gold-tone clasp laid out beside the watch. Seiko Boutique Australia describes that set as a special timber box.

Frequently asked questions
How many SRPL96J1 watches were made?
1,000 pieces, sold as an Australasian exclusive. Limited Edition is engraved on the exhibition case back, with an individual serial. Seiko Boutique Australia says the number is not selectable.
What movement is in The Conte?
Caliber 4R35. Automatic with manual winding and hacking, date at 3, 23 jewels, about 41 hours of reserve. Not a day-date. Not solar. Not quartz.
What size is the Seiko Presage SRPL96J1?
40.5 mm diameter, 11.8 mm thick, 47.5 mm lug-to-lug, 20 mm lug width. That is the size Seiko publishes for this reference. It sits in our 40 mm shop-by-size group because 40.5 mm falls in that bucket. The case itself is 40.5 mm.
Is the crystal on The Conte sapphire?
No. Seiko lists box-shaped Hardlex. Ignore a third-party sheet that says sapphire on both sides.
Can I swim with the SRPL96J1?
Water resistance is 50 metres (5 bar). Treat it as a dress watch. Rain and hand washing are the sensible limit. Leave it off for swimming and the shower.
Is the case solid rose gold?
No. Case material is stainless steel with a rose-gold-tone finish. The hands, bezel, and clasp match that finish. The strap is brown cow leather.
